Awards & Competitions

The HRA Annual Awards are considered in November each year to an HRA Member Organisation by a committee comprising representatives of HRA Board and Committees and editors from the National Railway Press. The awards are normally presented at the HRA Annual General Meeting in February.

Nominations for these awards can be made by any member of HRA, Friend of HRA or by a member of the public. All that is needed is a letter or email giving the name of railway or organisation being nominated and details of why the proposer thinks that an award should be considered.

The Annual Awards Committee is also responsible for making the HRA's premier award, The Peter Manisty Award. This award is named in memory of the long-serving Chairman of The Association of Railway Preservation Societies, a predecessor of HRA, the late Captain Peter F Manisty RN, MBE. This award can be made to any organisation, whether or not they are a member of HRA, who, in the opinion of the Committee, have made an outstanding contribution to railway preservation. It is an occasional award and comprises a cast plaque and framed certificate which may be displayed by the winner.
