Tuesday 05 March 2019 starting at 1030 at the Horton Suite of the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham - The Burlington is just outside New Street Station

We have lined up a host of tremendous speakers, and no-one will leave without gaining from the event.

The morning session is: “Capitalise the Customer Experience” and this promises to be of real value to all HRA Members.

First thing at 1030 there will be a brief introduction by Mark Smith followed by several presentations:

  • Acquiring your customer Graeme Wigglesworth/Simon Hanney

  • Welcoming your customer Tony Stead/David Winpenny

  • Maximise the experience Ian Reed/Paul Best

After the presentations Graeme and Simon will host a feedback and follow-up period

There will also be time, in the remaining time before the lunch break for Q&A and audience participation

For the afternoon, we are extremely lucky to have arranged for three extremely valuable speakers and the topic is fundraising:

  • Elizabeth Neathey BA, Arts Council England. Experienced in museum development including governance and funding; will speak on A.C.E. project grants and Museum Accreditation. 

  • Claire Routley PhD, Legacy Fundraising Ltd. Institute of Fundraising tutor and ‘Giving to Heritage’ presenter on legacy giving. 

  • Adam Tyson BSc, NLHF (HLF as was). Policy Advisor on the Historic Environment, which includes transport heritage, outlining the revamped organisation and their grants structure.

HRA AGM & Spring Management Forum

Wednesday 06 March - strarting at 1030

This forum is aimed at Directors, Trustees and Senior Managers
There will also be a real opportunity to chat with others in the industry and networking is an important part of the day.

The first item is our usual AGM which gives all members a chance to deal with our statutory matters, and of course vote on AGM business.
This year we also have elections for the following who have been proposed to join ouir HRA Board

  • Chris Price

  • Julie Jones

  • Barbara Barnes

After the AGM, we will have a coffee break followed by our Management Forum.

Todays world has many attractions and challenges for HRA members, and this forum is where we try and inform, and generate discussion of interest to those who run our businesses. We will be discussing, amongst other items of interest:

  • Coal - its availablity and use for the future

  • The impact of Brexit on tourism

  • The latest on legislation

  • Topical briefings and insights.

And, of course, a great chance to network, share experiences and exchange views.

HRA Annual General Meeting ONLY

This option is so that you can let us know that you are going to be attending just the AGM, without staying on for the Management Forum. There is no fee for just attending the AGM, and the “cart” process is only used to register your name and email address

Macdonald Burlington Hotel


The AGM itself on Wednesday morning from 1000 to 1130 is a free event. 

The day-rate for the Management Forum, which will start at 1130, includes a buffet lunch and teas and coffees
