Working in heritage rail

Working in heritage rail

Have you always dreamt of working with steam engines? Is your ideal job restoring or looking after vintage carriages? Or perhaps you’re the kind of person who loves empowering and developing a team?

Heritage rail is supported by a huge number of volunteers, whose input is invaluable, but the sector has always employed a much smaller number of paid staff. Whether it’s specialist engineers, marketing experts, or safety professionals, there are occasional opportunities to be a part of the sector at all levels.

Preserving and innovating

People in heritage rail are passionate and committed to the future of this vibrant sector that contributes £600m to the UK economy and welcomes 13 million visitors each year. They understand why preserving our heritage for future generations is vital. But they’re not afraid to innovate and find new ways to tackle the challenges that the 21st Century presents to heritage rail.

If that sounds like you, then heritage rail offers rewarding work in a practical environment and cherishes people who get things done.

The Heritage Railway Association shares selected job opportunities from our member organisations. Please apply directly to the railway, tramway or rolling stock group using the details provided unless otherwise stated.
