Safety Management Systems workshops
Safety Management Systems on Heritage Railways
The Office of Rail and Road recognise that the heritage rail sector is the most diverse sector of the rail industry in the UK. They are keen to actively engage with all heritage railways and tramways to help them interpret and apply the specific requirement of Rail and Other Guided Systems (ROGS) and to have in place a proportionate safety management system.
2024 ORR Heritage Workshops
The Heritage Railway Association is again working with the ORR to offer a programme of seminars to help improve health and safety management capability and, this year, specifically Safety Management Systems.
We are running six Heritage Workshops at various locations around the country during January and February.
About the Workshops
The workshops are open to all standard gauge, narrow gauge and 15” gauge railways, and all other railways and tramways regulated by the ORR. Operators of funicular railways are also welcome to attend.
Each workshop will include:
- How an SMS can help your business
- Overview of the ORR’s new SMS Guidance for Heritage Rail
- Understanding the legal requirements
- The HRSSB and how it will help you develop your SMS
- Case study from an individual railway
- Monitoring, audit and review
The day will also provide a comprehensive opportunity for candid discussion, feedback and networking.
These complimentary workshops are being run by the ORR in conjunction with the HRA. The ORR would like every operating railway to attend, and the event is open to non HRA heritage railway operators.
Places at each event are free of charge but limited to around 40 people. Initially, we can only accept two registrations from each railway. Light refreshments will be available.
